Thanks for visiting my website! My name is John Daniel Pelegrino, but many people who know me call me JD. I am currently a sophomore at Drake University studying Journalism and Mass Communications with a minor in Spanish language.¬†Ever since last year, I have been writing for the Times-Delphic, our school newspaper that has won multiple pacemaker awards. My first story made it into the print copy and online edition when I was only a freshman. Now a sophomore, I am interning with the TD as a staff writer and covering all of Drake’s football games. I am a strong leader, who encourages others to improve while staying focused on all tasks at hand. With my increasing experience writing and drive for career success, I am willing to do whatever is asked of me at an exceptional level. My long term goal is to cover sports for ESPN or a professional sports team.

This upcoming summer I hope to intern for a news publication, writing stories and covering breaking news. As I am from a suburb of Chicago, this summer I would like to intern for the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, the Daily Herald, or any other publication in the city. My experience with the Times-Delphic and in my writing/reporting classes has prepared me to jump right into a publication and be conscious of deadlines and be able to start right away.

I am from Lake Villa, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Before coming to college, I lived with my mom, dad, brother and dog. I also have a sister. My sister lives in New York, while my brother lives at home with my parents and expects to come to Drake next Fall. I went to Grayslake North High School, where I was a three season athlete and active speaker at school assemblies for prom and other events.

I am involved in the social fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon. I am currently the intramural chair and manage and document all of the sports in SigEp. Through my experience as SigEp’s intramural chair, I have learned how to emerge a leader and be a resource for guidance to over 100 men. I have attended two leadership conferences with members from my fraternity: Carlson Leadership Academy (CLA), in Rosemont, Illinois & Conclave in Orlando, Florida. I attended both conferences before starting my sophomore year, and plan on getting even more involved in these next three years.
