On this page, you will find pictures that I have taken, which have been published in The Times Delphic (Drake University’s student publication), as well as pictures for recreational use. I have always had a niche for photography, ever since I was a little boy. I would always steal my parents’ phones just to venture out and capture images of the environment or just anything around me.
Growing up in the early 2000’s, technology and especially photography became more prominent and continues to grow. I received my first phone when I was 10 years old, in fourth grade, however it was not a camera phone. Two years later, I got my first camera phone. The convenience of having a camera attached to my phone that I was supposed to have on me “at all times,” was a win-win. I now could talk to my friends and family whenever I wanted and take pictures (even if they weren’t that great).
The invention of Snapchat blew up when I was in about seventh grade. Around eighth grade, everyone had Snapchat on their phones. Besides the camera on my iPhone, snapchat remains my biggest tool for taking pictures. My friends and family say that I abuse Snapchat because of how much I am on it. I love living in the moment, but looking back on the memories captured by photographs and videos is even better to me. Whenever I am out with friends and family, I snapchat almost everything, which is a tad excessive, but Snapchat is still social media.
Just recently, I experimented with a pair of Snapchat Spectacles for a project in my digital media class. The Snap Specs are very cool and I found use for them (mainly while running around and for sports), but they did not seem to catch on. For whatever reason, I believe that they are too expensive for the purpose they serve. I wore the Specs while running around and playing football, this offers great perspective while catching a football and where the eyes wander.
A few months ago for my birthday, I got my first camera. This was huge for me, as I have grown over the years, so has my passion for taking pictures. My parents got me a Cannon Rebel T6 for my birthday. This became an amazing tool for me as I have attended almost all of Drake’s home football games for the Times Delphic. It enabled me to take pictures, while taking notes, and interviewing players. Since I began taking pictures on my camera, some of those photos have been showcased in the TD alongside my stories.
Below are some of the pictures I have taken…
